The majority of WordPress users don't require Plugins, or only require a few, such as Plugins dealing with comment spam or customized post listings. Akismet  – Is a spam filter that checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they are spam or not, also checks the trackbacks for spam.

All-in-One SEO Pack    The All-in-One SEO Pack is the ultimate SEO (Search Engine Optimization) plugin out there. It automatically optimizes your blog for search engines, and has several options for the more advanced users.

Automatic Timezone   – WordPress normally requires you to set a date offset for the blog in terms of a numeric difference from GMT/UTC. Redirection - WordPress doesn't do any 301 redirections by itself when you, for instance, change the slug of a page (the part of the URL that identifies the post). Redirection does do that for you though. You can also add your own redirects in the very user friendly admin panel, that's why it takes care of all my redirections, and does so wonderfully.

Simple Trackback Validation   The Simple Trackback Validation plugin helps to eliminate trackback spam by performing a simple a simple but effective test on all incoming trackbacks.

Sociable   Sociable automatically adds links to your favorite social bookmarking sites on your posts, pages, and in your RSS feed. You can choose from 99 different social bookmarking sites.

SRG Clean Archives   The SRG Clean Archives plugin displays your archive listings in a clean and uniform fashion, that’s search engine and user-friendly, on a dedicated page or in your sidebar. If you’re still manually updating your archives page, stop doing it!

Search Excerpt -  WordPress Search by default sucks. Fixing it takes a bit of work, but the heavy lifting is done by this plugin. SlideShare – The SlideShare plugin allows you to embed presentations from SlideShare in non-hosted wordpress blogs as easily as you can with the hosted ones. Just copy and paste the code and it’ll display a description and link to slideshare for browsers without flash and an expandable presentation in flash for the others.

Stripe Ad   - A cool “stripe” appears at the very top of your blog, with a call-to-action to get your blog readers to click on it and be taken to the appropriate landing page.

SEO Post Link   This plugin makes your blog post link short as well as optimizes it for search engine.

I've used it to upgrade all of my WordPress blogs and sites to the latest version for at least 6 months now.

WP-DB Manager  - Not only is this plugin perfect for doing automated backups, it can also do things like database optimization and the admin pages for it allow you to do the occasional query from within WordPress!

Weather Plugin  - This plugin will retrieve the weather forecast for a given weather station code and make it available for display in your templates. Values for temperature, wind, visibility, etc are available.

WP Easy Uploader – WP Easy Uploader was created to make the life of WordPress bloggers easier by allowing an Administrator to add plugins, themes, and any type of file to WordPress directly from inside WordPress.

WP Sentry – This is a simple plugin to allow for access-restricted posting, allowing bloggers to discuss sensitive subjects without Google or the world finding the post.

Yet Another Related Posts Plugin  Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (YARPP) inserts a list of related posts below each post on your blog, and in your blog’s RSS feed. It’s extremely configurable, and a must-have.
