Welcome back!
Learn to Use Wordpress.org, Part-2
If you have not read the part-1 of this series, then I suggest you read that post first before reading this one.
Here is the link for the part-1 of Wordrpress.org learning series.
In the first part, you got all the files which need to be loaded to your host. When it comes to the hosting solutions, I normally use Godaddy and Hostgator only. If you have access to Cpanel or not, you will have access to your host through a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program. There are many programs available and you can use any one. For your easy reference, I am providing here few links:
- Smart FTP
- FileZilla - my choice and it is free too.
- CoreFTP - this is also free.
- GoFTP - High speed and free too.
- Cute FTP - this is a paid version.
You also need to buy a domain name and you can use the following resources for your website name:
- Mozzle - the most advanced software dedicated for finding website names. You need to pay for this software.
- Domain Software - If you are very particular about the domain names or looking for the expired domain names, you can use this resource for some high tech domain names grabbing software.
- DomainPunch - For those who are into domain names buying and registering for profit.
- Desktop API - This is a desktop program to find out the expired domains which you might find fit for your business.
- Nameboy - I use this resource to research the website name ideas. This is free too.
- Make Words - If you are looking for lots of domain name ideas, you can use this resource.
- Dot-o-mator - This is a good program for domain name research.
If you are looking for domain name tips, you can watch this video.
You should also make sure that you have a text editing tool. If you don’t have one, here are the resources for the same:
- Text Editor - a general purpose text editor
- Edit PadPro - Free text editor
- Crimson Editor - Free text editor
- Edit Plus - a text and HTML editor
- UltraEdit - this is a paid editor.
- FCKeditor - this is the editor which is used for the wordpress post.
- Notepad++ - this is a free source code editor.
Now it’s time to go to the Wordpress.org installation page to learn how to install the files.
Step 1: Use your FTP program and then type in the user name and password to access your website folder at the hosting site. Once you get the access, your site may look like this:

Step 2: Create the database using the wordpress steps to create database name, database user name and database password. Go to wordpress database creation page now.
Step 3: Locate the wp-config-sample.php file in the wordpress files and then use your text editor to type in the database name, database user name and database password in this file. Save this file and then change the name to wp-config.php.
Step 4: Double click at the ‘public_html’ folder to dig into the folder. Once you are in, locate all the wordpress files, select them and then upload them to your hosting site.
Step 5: Now it’s time to run the install script. In my case I am installing the files for the WinningSavingCoupons.com so I have to type in the URL (http://WinningSavingCoupons.com/wp-admin/install.php) to install the script.
Step 6: Once I run the script, I get a new screen which asks for the Blog Title name and the email address. This is how it looks like:

Step 7: Press the ‘install wordpress’ button and bingo you get the user name and password. You should note down the password very carefully as it is case sensitive.
Step 8: Login to your blog and then you will reach to the Wordpress Dashboard page which looks like the following:

Now you are ready to blog. If you remember I shared with you in the earlier posts how to do blog posts and how to create pages. The earlier blog posts done for the wordpress.com learning series are presented here again for your ready reference:
